The Presentation on Istanbul University Library Collections and Projects

İstanbul University’s Professors’ House housed  “Gale Digital Resources Presentation Day”   on 4 October, 2016.

The introduction of the collection of Gale Cengage Learning “Collections Archives Unbound-Turkey & Middle East”, “Gale Virtual Library e-book Platform” and “News Vault-Digital Newspaper Collection” took place.

Gale Digital Resources Presentation Day began with IU Vice Rector Dr. Sadat Murat’s speech. In his speech he underlied that 21st century is a period which has become synonymous with the Information Age where to access information in a fast way has become more important than ever and that university libraries are the most pivotal platforms in terms of “Digital library and Archiving. This, taken in terms of speed digital media can attain in our era, is of great importance. Now, the required information now can be accessed freely which has become paramount for different purposes. Classic libraries and archives, once important, have lost their traction in this era. Turkey is one of the leading countries in the possession of a very rich source of historical archives.

The program continued with the presentation of İstanbul University’s Head of Department of Library and Documentation Dr.Pervin Bezirci on “Istanbul University Library Collections and Projects”

Dr. Bezirci, in her presentation, emphasized the fact that İstanbul University has been hausing a valuable collection and a pool of statistics along with the ongoing projects all of which can be accessed with ease.

Following Dr.Pervin Bezirci’ speech, Chris Houghton made a presentation on “Gale GVRL e-book Platform and the Academic One File” and “Gale newsvault- Digital Newspaper Collections,” and respectively; Kemal Celik on “Gale Archives Unbound, Turkey and the Middle East Collections” and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Budak on “Academics’ viewpoint on Access to Library and Archives” and Matt Drury on “Gale Scholar”.
