IU Central Library Meets With the World Universities in COIMBRA Conference

IU CENTRAL LIBRARY MEETS WITH THE WORLD UNIVERSITIES IN COIMBRA CONFERENCE

Founded in 1987, Coimbra Group, a university community composed of multiple academic disciplines defining higher academic standards and organizes conferences in various countries every year.

Many universities around the world came together in collaboration with representatives of the Coimbra Group, the conference this year was held at the University of Istanbul between 1- 4 June 2015.

The theme of this year's conference was "Higher Education Networking = Networking in Higher Education".

In the context of university libraries within the scope of the conference in the session of "Treasures of Universities: Libraries & Museums Collections" , collections and museums were introduced. Assoc. Prof.. Güner Sağır, Director of Istanbul University's MUSEUM, introduced the university museums.

IU Library and Documentation Department Director Dr.PervinBezirci after giving brief information about the library in the IU body, talked about invaluable collections and projects in our university.

Besides Reading with Ataturk, Ruler of the Universe, the New Look to the Old World, a virtual library projects were introduced. The virtual version of library trip and book reading application were performed.

Dr. Natalia Sokolova of Russia's Peter the Great St Petersburg Technical University talked about her university library network in detail.

Following the conference, with participants a trip was made to Beyazit II Turkish Bath Culture Museum and " From the Yıldız Palace to Istanbul University " exhibition.

During Coimbra Group meetings talks on cooperation with universities throughout the world were made and steps were taken to translate these discussions into new projects.
